ABOUT ME
I used to be a scientist. Then I realized I would rather write about research than conduct it.
Now as a science writer and journalist, my goal is to bring science to the public in an accessible, digestible way — I do that through storytelling. My stories have a nature-based focus, and my main beats are ecology, climate change, and the environment — but you can find me covering a good story in any corner of the scientific world, from archaeology to emerging medicine.
I tell these stories for digital and print publications, including both national and international magazines and newspapers. I also apply my science writing craft to multimedia outlets through scriptwriting. Apart from writing, I also fact-check stories — from magazine articles to nature documentaries — to ensure they are accurate.
I’ve loved the natural world since I was a curious seven-year-old digging for worms at recess. But after earning my bachelor’s degree in biology from Northern Arizona University, I felt like I couldn’t satisfy my curiosity by committing to a single scientific discipline. When I discovered science writing, I was thrilled to find out I could spend my time talking to scientists and learning about whatever I wanted. Ultimately, that discovery led me to the UC Santa Cruz Science Communication Program, where I earned my master’s degree. When I’m not at my desk or in the field, I’m playing outside with my two dogs, tinkering in the garden, or cozied up knitting.
